Ashfordby Girls U16 2 Little Eaton Ladies U16 1
A narrow and rare defeat for Little Eaton at a wet and wintry Ashfordby. Little Eaton started slowly, and Paige Evans had to be alert to stop the early threat from the sharp Ashfordby forwards. However Little Eaton got into their game and opened the scoring after 15 minutes with a fine individual goal by Mel Fisher, she showed strength and determination and finished with a powerful strike from the edge of the box. Ashfordby came back strongly and only resolute defending by Hannah Limberger, Chloe Pountain, Hazel Preston and Vicky Spargo kept them at bay. Eventually the pressure told and Ashfordby equalised with a left footed strike from close range which gave Paige Evans no chance in goal. Ashfordby took the lead early in the second half with a good header from a well taken corner. The rest of the game was end to end with Summer Evans working hard to get Little Eaton back in the game, and only a last ditch tackle prevented her from equalising. Pip Cassidy also had an opportunity with 5 min left to play , but the shot was well save by the goalkeeper. Ashfordby also looked dangerous on the break, and an excellent defensive display from Hazel Preston saved Little Eaton on occasions and deservedly earned her the player of the match award.
